About the artwork
Shot in 2016 and then again in 2018, THE HARLEM STORIES OF THE HEART THE is a collection of 20 portraits which tell the most intimate, albeit silent, stories of First Love.
These very private stories were told in silence, through hand gestures and face expressions by residents of Harlem, New York City....as to what actually happened - we might never know !
About the artist
Photograher, Director, Artist. Serial shoe and opera lover.
Alina Gozin’a has spent much of her career capturing the world’s most famous faces and those bathing in the light of glory as well those hidden by the shadows of our society, giving them all a voice through the medium of art, using the same photographic treatment no matter who she shoots.
Based between Sydney and New York, this internationally acclaimed photographer, director and artist is best known for her uncompromising eye and lighting which evokes cinematic European sentiment in the photography and films she creates. IWD 2019 is about #balanceforbetter. What does this mean to you as a female photographer?
#balanceforbetter - YES! I hope soon in Australia I'd be treated the way I am in USA and I'd be commissioned for work based on my talent and ability to deliver on brief and then some. I want to see female photographers and directors getting as much work as our male colleagues and to be given the same respect! PS - also being blond and dressing femininely does not mean I am not amazing at my job! It's 2019 .....just saying !
What does this mean to you as a human?
Being more mindful, more present, contributing to society in real tangible way.
