About the artwork
Moonbear, Brooklyn, NY, 2018
I have submitted portraits from a series I shot on my first trip to NYC. I captured two Brooklyn based female skaters - Briana and Kabrina. We hung out for the day and I photographed the experience of getting to know them
About the artist
I'm a photographer and creative director, and the founder of Culture Machine Agency.
IWD 2019 is about #balanceforbetter. What does this mean to you as a female photographer?
I think this means equal access for women in the creative industries. I think it means dismantling old paradigms that dictate "where a woman belongs", and what department she can work in and at what level. It also means taking strong, independent, business savvy women seriously.
What does this mean to you as a human?
For me, it means embracing the career path I've chosen and recognising the hard work I've put in to get here. It also means supporting and helping women pursuing similar paths, and also looking to women as mentors for me and my practice.
