Balance for Better

Agender’s 2nd annual exhibition on International Women’s Day 2019

Based on the 2019 IWD theme #balanceforbetter, this year’s artist cohort tripled in size from the previous year, to showcase the talent of 22 of Australia’s most successful and talented female photographers, while drawing attention to the inequality in pay and diversity that is present in the industry.

A huge thank you to the curatorial talents and friendship of photographer and educator Liz Ham.

Venue: Sun Studios, 42 Maddox St, Alexandria NSW 2015
Dates: March 9 – 31, 2019

50% of artwork sale profits were donated to Sydney Women’s Fund.

Event photography by Lucy Alcorn and Karin Gottschalk

“Agender is a celebration of the great talent, wisdom and experience of female photographers. At the same time, our aim is to create new pathways for women at the start of their careers, and central to that is addressing the inequality in pay, diversity and opportunities given to women in the industry.”

— Agender co-founder Cybele Malinowski

“Balance is the answer in all aspects of our lives. I love to see work by both women and men as sometimes we have a different way of viewing the world. That difference should be celebrated and encouraged.”

— Photographer Leila Jeffreys
